Introduction Heatwave season in Europe is no joke, with temperatures ranging from 30°C to a staggering 40°C. However, beyond the sometimes scorching days, there are hours of opportunity for e-bike riders: longer daylight hours, golden sunsets, blooming fields, quiet country roads, and nature in full swing. An e-bike is your ticket to reaching those refreshingly cool spots like lakes, forests, and beaches. Here’s our guide to helping you ride your e-bike, beat the heat, and soak up the scenery without (too much of) a sweat! Pre-ride tips for e-biking in summer Though it can be tempting to ride out for a midday exploration to enjoy the brighter day, when temperatures rise, it’s best to stick to early-morning or late-evening rides to avoid the UV peak and extreme heat (and appreciate the sunrise or sunset!). We’d also recommend that you:● Pack water and add electrolytes for easy hydration on the go (with your e-bike’s extra storage space, some extra snacks wouldn’t go amiss for refuelling, either!).● Use apps to plan your routes and include natural shade, ideally with tree-lined paths and roads with frequent water breaks. ● Apply plenty of sunscreen 30 minutes before you go for a ride, covering the back of your neck, ears, collarbones, and hands, as well as the usual areas — UV-protective arm sleeves can be extremely convenient for added protection. Taking care of your e-bike in summer The most important tip for summer e-bike maintenance is to store your battery in a cooler place to preserve range. When it comes to using higher assist to reduce physical exertion (and sweat!), try alternating between eco and other modes to avoid draining your battery and make your own breeze by balancing physical effort with battery life. Scorching road surfaces can wreak havoc on your tyres, too, so be sure to do a quick tyre pressure check before you ride to keep your tyres at a comfortable, safe pressure. Top TENWAYS tip: Opt for a lightweight helmet with good ventilation to keep excess sweat at bay. On the road tactics You can cover longer distances with e-bikes, but you still need breaks to avoid overheating and overexertion. Plan scenic stops into your routes to keep yourself cool whilst still soaking in the summer scenery. If the heat becomes unbearable or overwhelming, cut the ride short and save your longer-distance rides for cooler days. After all, a short trip can still be an enjoyable journey! After the heatwave Longer summer days can often mean more time to enjoy your e-bike during periods when you usually wouldn’t, such as early morning or later in the evening. The discomfort of a heatwave is temporary, but the joy of summer rides lasts, especially when you’re prepared! An e-bike covers the physical distance, but it’s your energy that takes you to a place of peaceful enjoyment, whether it’s the sounds of nature, a beautiful sunrise, or a quiet glide through the countryside. Why not opt for a TENWAYS e-bike to make your long, scenic summer ride as stylish and comfortable as possible? We’d recommend our AGO and CGO e-bike ranges.
