In 2022, we announced our partnership with Just One Tree (JOT), a non-profit organization that fights deforestation, where we pledged to fund the planting of a new tree for their reforestation projects with every electric bike we sold. Since then, thanks to the incredible support of our Tenwayers, we're delighted to share that JOT has planted over 20,000 trees around the world on our behalf, making a huge difference to global sustainability and developing communities around the world.

What we've achieved together

We're proud to support JOT in preserving biodiversity in different parts of our planet, and our Tenwayers have made a big difference by supporting reforestation projects in countries such as Brazil, Madagascar, Mexico, Peru and Kenya.

Planting trees not only mitigates the devastating effects of deforestation, but they also absorb CO2, preventing it from being released and harming the atmosphere, while helping the trees to grow. The 20,000 trees we've planted have absorbed 6669.12 tons of CO2, a massive contribution towards climate change prevention!

The environmental impact of planting trees also helps our planet's natural resources by preventing soil erosion, conserving water, and many other amazing benefits.

Protecting wildlife

JOT's tree planting helps ecosystems thrive and counteracts the deforestation the world is experiencing today. It gives plants and animals a suitable breeding ground for generations to come.

In some of their projects, they plant mangrove trees to protect biodiversity, such as in Ankilahila, Madagascar, helping to preserve important breeding grounds for 75% of the world's tropical fish species, as well as birds, insects and mammals. In Oaxaca, Mexico, trees are planted at one of the world's most important Olive Ridley turtle nesting sites, which welcomes over 1 million sea turtles each year!

Improving employment opportunities

Another amazing effect of planting trees with JOT is that its initiatives create jobs in local communities, fostering economic growth by providing residents with a stable income as they develop their skills and increase their prospects for long-term employment. One of JOT's employees, Salome in Kenya, thanked them for enabling him to afford to send his son to college.

JOT's project in Cerrado, Brazil, supports a local indigenous group of Kalunga communities, training them to plant and manage their forest to restore its vast biodiversity, preserve 12,000 plants for food and medicine, and replenish the springs and waterfalls that provide electricity to 90% of Brazil.

Promoting gender equality

Our planting projects also promotes gender equality in regions where it's needed most, such as Nepal and Madagascar. In these areas, where social norms and gender discrimination are prevalent, women—who make up more than 40% of the global agricultural workforce—often lack decision-making power in their homes and communities. This disparity is particularly concerning given that 70% of the world's poor are women, and those in poverty are most vulnerable to the devastating effects of climate change, like droughts and floods.

By prioritizing the employment of women, who represent an average of 51% of the workforce in all our tree-planting projects, we're helping to break these cycles of inequality. The job opportunities and leadership roles created through our collective reforestation efforts empower women to take active roles in conservation and community development. These trees, planted on behalf of the TENWAYS community, are not only restoring landscapes but are also providing women with the tools and opportunities to overcome the challenges they face and build a more equitable future.

Supporting local communities

The project also improves local livelihoods by improving water quality, food security and resilience to natural disasters. Mangroves planted by JOT in Baja California, Mexico, help protect areas from local storms and provide feeding grounds for local fisheries, providing much-needed food and income for local coastal communities.  Similarly, in Madagascar, our initiative ensures that local people are employed to carry out the restoration, reducing the need to cut down mangroves for building materials or economic gain from charcoal production. 

This approach not only curbs deforestation but also provides a sustainable, long-term solution that benefits the entire community. By involving locals in the restoration process, we help create jobs and foster a deeper connection between the community and their natural environment.

Using an electric bike to get around is a great way to reduce environmental degradation. Since it emits zero emissions into the atmosphere, you can play an active role in reducing the amount of fossil fuels released into the atmosphere.
